Sport Science and Health Education
Health Endorsement Program
The Sport Science and Health Education Department offers a variety of opportunities for possible career choices in heath, physical education, sport and recreation. Health and physical education can be designed around the teaching profession and culminate in a student teaching experience. Faculty advise students in many areas of opportunities within the teaching and coaching profession, and highly recommend certification in K-12 educational settings. The health endorsement allows for broader opportunity and marketability for graduates and affords a wide base of knowledge and experiences beyond the class room. The exercise science program prepares graduates to work in hospital settings, health and fitness clubs and corporate fitness programs. The program culminates with an internship experience and many possible opportunities beyond the classroom.
The health endorsement is designed to be an educational experience tied to the physical education major, which makes the graduate more marketable within the education profession. The endorsement is designed around the state teaching requirements and health national standards and allows the graduate opportunities to work in the classroom with students grades K-12. The culminating experience is also student teaching within the secondary level. One of the outstanding entities of our health endorsement program is our ability to have methods instructors who have been awarded the Iowa State Teacher of the Year Awards with superb teaching abilities and styles to pass along to our students. We are strengthening this endorsement area with excellent faculty and experiences outside the classroom!
