Housing Timeline and Move-in Day

Welcome to Simpson!  This page contains all the information you and your family needs to know about securing housing and move-in day!


Housing dates for fall 2012 for new students:

  • Anytime!: Send in your enrollment deposit and housing information, including our housing contract, will be mailed to you within a few weeks.  The earlier you send this in, the better!  If you know of someone you'd like to be paired with who is also entering Simpson, you can preference them on your contract.  Sending in your housing contract also guarantees your housing at Simpson.
  • April: Facebook roommate selection group for the Class of 2016 goes live!
  • June: During orientation, more housing information will be covered along with move-in day specifics.  We'll also cover our Facebook roommate selection process in more depth, which allows you to look around for someone who is compatible with you!
  • June 25: All roommate requests are due via our roommate contract or other means which will discuss at orientation.
  • Early July: Housing professionals and admissions counselors meet to match roommates and assign rooms.
  • Mid-July: Housing assignment letters are mailed, including roommate contact information and room number.
  • August 25: Move-in day!

For students transferring into Simpson, housing staff and Gwen Schroder, the transfer admissions counselor, work together in June and July to give individual attention to each student and assign housing based on his or her needs.  Information is mailed as soon as those matches are made.

First-Year Move-In

 

Move-in to Barker and Kresge Halls is from 9am-1pm on Saturday, August 25th.  Please use the above map to guide you along the best routes to take.

 

At that time, you'll receive your ID, your room combination, and will be able to ask any questions you need to make your move-in successful.  There will also be several students present to help you move-in, so you won't have to do it all on your own!  When your vehicle is unloaded, please move it to one of the lots marked with a "P" above.  Security and staff will be available to point you in the right direction upon move-in.

 

Pointers:

- Check out this information which was provided at orientation for what to bring/not to bring.

- Mark belongings and boxes with the room number you're moving into.

- Place a small note on your dashboard of your vehicle with your room number on it.

Transfer Move-In

 

Move-in for transfer students who are moving into buildings other than Barker and Kresge will begin with checking in at 711 N D - the temporary location of Residence Life.  Check-in is from 9a-1p on Saturday, August 25th.

 

At that time, you'll receive your ID, your room combination, and will be able to ask any questions you need to make your move-in successful.

Returner Move-In

 

Move-in for returners occurs on Sunday, August 26th from 9am-3pm.  Residents should check-in at their buildings if moving into Buxton, Picken, and Worth.  All others should check-in at their apartment building.  Theme house residents should stop by Residence Life at 711 N D to pick up their key.

 

Greek move-in for sorority members Sunday, August 19th, from 11am-1pm and on Tuesday, August 21st, from 9am-11am for fraternity members.  Students living in their chapter house will check-in at their building during this time, and Greek members not living in the house will check-in at Residence Life at 711 N D.

If you have extenuating circumstances that will require you to move in at another date and/or time, please contact us by August 3rd to obtain approval.  We will try to accommodate your needs, but this type of accommodation is reserved only for those who have no other option available.  There is a $30/night fee associated with moving in early, and you will need to make other meal arrangements as food service is not available.
