Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing worldwide.  The Simpson campus chapter of Habitat for humanity frequently participates in building and remodeling projects in conjunction with the Warren County chapter of Habitat.  In addition to Saturday work trips and fund raisers, the chapter travels to a new location each year to build one or more houses over the week of spring break.  Habitat is a great way to get involved, have fun and meet new people!

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is open to any student, faculty, or staff who would like to travel to Des Moines to share breakfast and fun time with children at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Haven Club

The Haven Club is an after school program sponsored by Children and Family Urban Ministries.  It invites members of the Simpson community to come and participate in after-school reading, writing, and social skills activities with Des Moines area school children.

Catholic Worker House

Simpson students who visit the Des Moines Catholic Worker House have the unique opportunity to assist with inner-city building projects, Serve Hospitality House meals, and occasionally attend Mass.

Shalom Zone

This group works with inner city children during an after school program at Gatchel United Methodist Church that focuses on reaching out to the kids in an intentional Christian manner.  Students provide a hot meal, do a devotional and work on computer skills and homework with the children.

Literacy Program

The Literacy Program is a part of Shalom Zone Ministries at Gatchel United Methodist Church in Des Moines.  While there Simpson students work one-on-one with a child whom they have been matched with.  Students help the children with specific areas at school that they need additional help, such as reading and computer skills.

Ten Thousand Villages

An annual marketplace of hand made goods from around the world that supports third world craft makers.

Spring Break Trips

The Service section of the RLC sponsors a number of spring break trips for students each year.  The trips offer an inexpensive alternative to going home over break.  In the past these trips have gone out to all areas of the US and Mexico.  Each trip has a slightly different focus.  Students have a chance to do work projects, visit places of religious significance, and grow in their faith.  These spring break trips are a great way for students to enjoy a week off and get so much more out of break.
