Religious Life

Outreach and Service

RLC Outreach Groups enjoy traveling to churches within a one hour drive from Simpson College.  Each group visits 2 to 3 churches each semester to share their gifts and their spirit in worship. Special arrangements can be made (in advance) for visits to churches farther than one hour to Simpson.

Youth Corps

It is the pleasure of Simpson's Youth Corps members to host your junior or senior youth group for a Wednesday night visit. Your youth are invited to share fellowship, a pizza dinner and a campus tour before going to campus worship at 9 PM in Smith Chapel.  Youth Corps also enjoys leading one or two on-site lock-ins or retreats per year with area junior or senior high youth groups.

Revelation Singers

Revelation Singers

The choir members of Revelation Singers enjoy praising God through music.  They are a lively and fun group who perform contemporary Christian music with voice, piano and guitar.

Chapel Brass

Chapel Brass is a brass instrumental ensemble comprised of Simpson students who enjoy playing both contemporary and hymn style musical compositions.

Genesis

The Genesis Drama Troupe performs spiritual dramas, plays and "human music" videos as a way to creatively share Christ's message with the world.

After Thoughts

After Thoughts is a fall semester group that meets on Sunday mornings to visit local churches. It is their goal to connect students to these churches in the hope that the students find a supportive church family.

Chapel Brass and Genesis are both taking some time off to revamp and are both available by special request.  Please contact Smith Chapel staff for more information, or to set up  visit, at 515-961-1610 or via e-mail at rlc@simpson.edu.

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is open to any student, faculty, or staff who would like to travel to Des Moines to share breakfast and fun time with children at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Haven Club

The Haven Club is an after school program sponsored by Children and Family Urban Ministries.  It invites members of the Simpson community to come and participate in after-school reading, writing, and social skills activities with Des Moines area school children.

Haven

Catholic Worker House

Simpson students who visit the Des Moines Catholic Worker House have the unique opportunity to assist with inner-city building projects, Serve Hospitality House meals, and occasionally attend Mass.

Shalom Zone

This group works with inner city children during an after school program at Gatchel United Methodist Church that focuses on reaching out to the kids in an intentional Christian manner.  Students provide a hot meal, do a devotional and work on computer skills and homework with the children.

Literacy Program

The Literacy Program is a part of Shalom Zone Ministries at Gatchel United Methodist Church in Des Moines.  While there Simpson students work one-on-one with a child whom they have been matched with.  Students help the children with specific areas at school that they need additional help, such as reading and computer skills.
