Worship services
The RLC holds worship services weekly durring the academic year including Daybreak, Chatholic Mass and Protestant Communion. In addition, many special services are held at Smith Chapel during the academic year. Each has a particular significance for Simpson students and alumni, and each hold a unique place in the traditions of the college. Some of these highly revered services include:
Lessons and Carols
This service is a traditional and sacred service at Simpson College. This service is, for many students, alumni, and community members, is an evening that marks the beginning of their Christmas season. Held the second weekend of December, this service includes the reading of nine lessons from the Holy Bible and the performance of traditional Christmas carols. Members of the Simpson College faculty, staff and student body read the lessons, and the Simpson College Women’s Chorale and College Choir perform the carols.
Martin Luther King Service
This service honors the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Held on the observance day of the holiday, members of the faculty, student body and community are invited to remember Martin Luther King Jr.
Convocations
Honors Convocation and All-College Convocation are held at Smith Chapel. Honors Convocation is held for award students that have been given a mark of distinction or honor. All-College Convocation is a yearly reminder of what Simpson College really stands for and a lesson that students can follow throughout the year.
Lectures
Several lectures are held at Smith Chapel. Some lectures of note are the Matthew Simpson Lecture, the McBride Lecture and the George Washington Carver lecture.
