Religion

Presentations and Conferences

Each year religion majors are given the opportunity to travel with faculty members to a regional meeting of our professional organizations, American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical literature .  Last March we took 5 students.  We are encouraging current students to submit paper proposals for the undergraduate sessions of the meeting in St. Paul, MN and for the Great Plains Undergraduate Theology Conference at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.  Often students revise and "perfect" papers they have worked on in a religion class.

Last year's presentations included:

Heather Fosburgh,  “The Apostle Mary Magdalene”  Undergraduate Theology Conference, April 2008, Concordia College, Minnesota

In Heather's paper she argued that Mary Magdalene was an apostle of Jesus just as Peter and Paul and other prominent male apostles were.  She looked at Mary's role in spreading good news, her access and closeness to Jesus, and how she is portrayed in canonical and non-canonical literature, including the Gospel of Mary.

Jessica Paulsen, “The Use of the Bible in Chaucer’s ‘The Clerk’s Tale’” Undergraduate Theology Conference, April 2008, Concordia College, MN
