Welcome to the home page of Simpson College's department of psychology. Students who study psychology will learn the different theoretical perspectives that underlie the core of knowledge regarding behavior and mental processes. In addition, students will learn the various methods of acquiring, evaluating and applying psychological principles.
Within the discipline of psychology are many diverse areas including mental health, social processes, learning and motivation, the relationship of the brain to behavior, psychological disorders, personality theory and human development throughout the lifespan.
Students interested in psychology pursue a wide variety of occupations following graduation. Many psychology majors or minors first pursue graduate work in psychology or related fields before beginning their careers. Several resources are available to help psychology students plan their remaining course work at Simpson and prepare their applications to graduate programs. These include the expected offering of psychology courses, a handbook explaining how to prepare for graduate school, and a request form to be filled out when asking a department member to write reference letters to graduate programs.
