Blank Performing Arts Center Expansion
Simpson Collegebegan construction on the Blank Performing Arts Center this summer. The groundbreaking ceremony was held June 26. Follow the progress at the TheatreSimpson blog.
The 17,000 square foot expansion of the Blank Performing Arts Center — which is home to the Des Moines Metro Opera (DMMO) in the summer — will benefit Simpson College students as well as community members.
The project will add an elevator, expanded and accessible restrooms and increased handicapped seating to the facility to allow everyone to enjoy the performances held at Blank. The expansion will create faculty space, teaching classrooms and labs and double the size of the lobby.
Additionally, improved lighting and larger preparation spaces will enhance productions put on by Simpson theatre and music students and professionals in the DMMO.
Pote Theatre will also see changes with this project as new seats, new lights and expanded handicapped seating will help patrons have an even more enjoyable fine arts experience.
