Simpson Profiles - Omar

omarpAs a student at North High School in Des Moines, Omar’s teachers suggested he enroll in Simpson’s Upward Bound program. It was during his time on campus through Upward Bound that Omar fell in love with the college.

Now, as a senior, Omar’s first impressions of Simpson remain as strong as ever. “One of the most important reasons I chose Simpson is because it has a strong academic reputation.”

With a double major in criminal justice and sociology, Omar plans to attend graduate school in the fall and eventually teach at the college level.

“My teachers at Simpson have been so caring and good at what they do. They have really inspired me to do the same.”

Outside the classroom, Omar remains busy with various activities. A member of the varsity soccer team, he has also been president of his residence hall, served as a Liberal Arts seminar assistant, Spanish tutor and co-house manager of the Carver Cultural House. He is also involved in the International Student Organization and Multicultural Student Alliance. He and a friend recently organized a “Living the Dream” march to celebrate diversity at Simpson.

Omar feels Simpson has been all he hoped for and more and will enable him to achieve his goals. “I am very happy that I chose Simpson.”
