Elizabeth has worked hard to get where she is today.
The junior from Jaurez, Mexico, crossed the border every day to attend high school at Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso, Texas. At school, she worked in the cafeteria for two hours a day while taking English classes. Through ties to the United Methodist Church she learned about Simpson and became eligible for an academic scholarship.
“(The people at Lydia Patterson) told me the campus was beautiful,” she said.
Upon her first visit to campus, she discovered they were right. “When I walk around, it’s like I’m in a movie at a college. The experience I’ve had here is awesome.”
Academically, Elizabeth finds the Cornerstone requirements at Simpson very beneficial to her development. “I enjoy how they emphasize taking a variety of classes. I learn so much about things I would never have studied before. I love that.”
In addition to her classroom experience, she enjoys her involvement in the Religious Life Community and the International Student Organization (ISO). “The opportunity to grow spiritually is really important to me,” she said. “And one of the things I’ve loved is the chance to meet other international students on campus.”
Elizabeth serves as the president of the ISO. “One of our goals is to work together to bring diversity to campus.”
After graduation, Elizabeth hopes to get a job in Mexico or Texas. She feels her double major in international relations and political science will make her a great candidate to work in an embassy someday.
