The Simpson philosophy department provides two distinct majors, philosophy and applied philosophy. The philosophy major emphasizes the classic questions of the discipline, whereas the applied philosophy major allows students to explore how philosophy continues to shape and reshape our world. Both degrees in philosophy aim to develop skills, such as the ability to think critically and logically and the ability to develop innovative ways to understand and address controversial issues.

Another unique opportunity within the department is a philosophy minor with a concentration in Ethics. This gives students the opportunity to study ethics in a focused and in-depth way. This minor is a good complement to many other majors and a solid choice for students invested in fields such as business, political science and healthcare.
