Since coming to Simpson in the fall of 1990, John Pauley has taught all areas of philosophy and he continues to teach in all areas of philosophy. In recent years, Pauley has specialized in value inquiry and value theory- branches of philosophy that require a synoptic understanding of both philosophy and many other disciplines.

Pauley is an active writer and thinker who has published in international peer reviewed journals and has had many papers accepted for presentation at regional and national conferences.

Pauley has been honored with the Distinguished Teaching Award twice (1998 and 2004) and the Excellence in Teaching Award (1996). He has served on most committees at Simpson, chaired the Faculty Personnel Committee and is currently the director of cornerstone studies.
