Professor to edit book series

Sept. 25, 2009

Simpson College Professor of History William Friedricks will edit a new innovative series of books, “Iowa and the Midwest Experience,” which will discuss the social, cultural, economic, political and geographical issues that have shaped the history of Iowa and other Midwestern states.

Last year, Friedricks, who is also the director of the Iowa History Center at Simpson, was named the inaugural winner of the Iowa History Prize, which was awarded by Humanities Iowa to help support and promote awareness of and interest in Iowa history.

“I’m eager to bring the history of Iowa and its neighboring states to the forefront,” said Friedricks. “Midwestern history has long been neglected, and there are so many interesting stories to be told here.”

The book series will be published through the University of Iowa Press.
