Former athletes named to Hall of Fame

Simpson College will induct six former athletes into the Hall of Fame during Homecoming Oct. 10.
The athletes receiving this award include: Chris Donohue ’94, Adam Doll ’99, Michelle Fowler ’99, Kelly Schade Fry ’99, Michelle Mackie ’92 and Jeremy Whalen ’99.
- Chris Donohue, baseball, was named first team All-Conference and first team All-Region and honorable mention All-American. Donohue holds the record for most career pitching wins.
- Adam Doll, basketball, was named first team All-American in 1998 and second team All-American in 1999. In 1998, Doll was named Iowa Conference Player of the Year, and he was nominated for NCAA Outstanding Sportsperson of the Year in 1999. He was a finalist for the Jostens Trophy in both 1998 and 1999.
- Michelle Fowler, softball, played on Simpson’s NCAA Division III softball national championship teams in 1997 and 1999. She was a three-time second team All-Iowa Conference selection, a two-time All-Midwest Region first team selection and a two-time first team All-American Division III selection. Fowler was named the Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year in 1999.
- Kelly Schade-Fry, softball, was named to the NCAA Division III National Championship All-Tournament team from 1996 to 1999. She was also a three-time NFCA first team All-American, three-time GTE Academic All-American, and two-time GTE All-American Softball Player of the Year. Schade-Fry was the NCAA Top DIII award winner for the 1998-1999 season. She was the only player to be named Iowa Conference MVP three consecutive seasons. Schade-Fry, who played on both of Simpson’s national championship teams, was also a member of the NCAA 25th Anniversary team. She holds seven NCAA Division III records.
- Michelle Mackie, basketball, was team captain and two-time Simpson College MVP. She also was a two-time IIAC All-Conference Champion and named to the Simpson Tip Off Class All-Tournament Team three times. She received Kodak All-American honorable mention and GTE Academic All-American honors in 1992.
- Jeremy Whalen was a member of the football and wresting teams. In football, he was named first team All-Conference twice and received first team All-American and All-Region honors in 1997. In wrestling, Whalen was a two-time IIAC Conference Champion in 1997 and 1998. He placed sixth at the national tournament.
Additionally, Denny Whalen ’75, will receive the Dick Buxton award, which is given to a person of outstanding character who has supported Simpson College athletics.
Clark Ditzler ’55, Eldon E. Huston ’54 and Jason Jones ’93 will receive the Double S award, which is given to alumni who have exhibited excellence in their community as well as their careers.
The new Hall of Fame members will be inducted Oct. 10 at 9:30 a.m. during brunch in Great Hall.
