Former Nicaraguan VP gives McBride Lecture

Sergio Ramirez, an award-winning Nicaraguan author, will be deliver the McBride Lecture on the politics of Latin America at Simpson College Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in Great Hall.
His talk is entitled, “New Winds or Old Storms: Contemporary Political Changes in Latin America?”
Ramirez has written numerous novels, short stories, and essay collections including “Castigo divino,” “Charles Atlas tambien muere,” and “Tambor olvidado.”
He was an original member of the Grupo de Doce, which planned and executed the overthrow of the Somoza dictatorship in Nicaragua in 1979. He served as vice president of Nicaragua during the first Sandinista government.
