Iowa History Center launches speaker series

Oct. 22, 2007

The Iowa History Center at Simpson College will open its speaker series with the talk about a murder that shocked and divided a rural community in Warren County, Iowa.

Patricia Bryan and Thomas Wolf, authors of Midnight Assassin: A Murder in America's Heartland, will discuss their book about the century-old murder Oct. 22 at Simpson College in Lekberg Hall at 7 p.m.

Midnight Assassin examines the murder and investigation and the trials of Margaret Hossack, who is accused of brutally murdering her husband, while providing an in-depth portrayal of rural Iowa life at the turn of the century. Though Hossack was originally convicted, she was set free a year later after the jury in the retrial failed to reach a verdict. The murder remains unsolved.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information about the event, call (515) 961-1528. For more information about the publication, visit www.midnightassassin.com.
