Theatre Simpson will perform “Antigone: Speaking Truth” Oct. 5 through Oct. 7 in Pote Theatre, located in the Blank Performing Arts Center.
The production is a new adaptation of Sophocles’ play by Jennifer Ross Nostrala, professor of theatre art.
The center of “Antigone” is a simple act of defiance. Antigone, a young girl, stands up against a powerful ruler and is willing to risk everything to right an unbearable wrong. Her passion to stand up for what she believes in reveals the influence one person can have when they speak out to challenge those in power who have gone astray.
Cast members are: Mackenzie Webb, Rusty Garrison, Micah Simpson, Angela Vogel, Tiffany Flory, Ben Klaus, Melissa Markus and Jacob Kaufman.
Performances Oct. 5 and Oct. 6 begin at 7:30 p.m. The play starts at 1 p.m. Oct. 7.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for non-Simpson students. Reservations can be made by calling (515) 961-1601 or by e-mailing tsboxoffice@simpson.edu.
Cast members Rusty Garrison and Tiffany Flory were recently featured in The Des Moines Register for their ties to Lincoln High School in Des Moines. Both are 2007 graduates of the school and were encouraged to attend Simpson by Lincoln drama teacher Robin Vanderhoef, a Simpson alumna. Check out the full Register article by clicking here.
