Paintings on display in Farnham Galleries
Nov. 10, 2009
"Paintings" by Lee Rainboth will be on display in the Farnham Galleries from Nov. 10 to Dec. 4.
A reception for the artist will be held Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.
The paintings were inspired by a visit to Haiti, where a good friend and fellow artist asked him to make sure Americans "don’t forget we are here."
Rainboth’s work will reveal the people of Haiti and the influence they had had on him. He hopes to connect the artwork to the viewer by demonstrating similarities amongst people despite their geographical and cultural differences.
"The goal of my artwork has become communicating the existence of those people who have become otherwise invisible through the world's ignorance," Rainboth said. "I intend to show that negligence cannot be justified when the people in my art are not all that different from you or me. There is beauty to be found in every fragment of the world and in the life of every person no matter who they are or where they are, as long as you are willing to open your eyes and acknowledge it."
Farnham Galleries are located on the third floor of Mary Berry Hall. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Weekend hours can be arranged by request.
