Nov. 30, 2007
For the second year in a row, Simpson College’s chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) has helped plan an old-fashioned Christmas celebration in downtown Indianola.
Dickens of a Christmas will take place on the Town Square Friday, Nov. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Dickens of a Christmas will feature performances from choirs and music groups, street actors and food vendors. Storefront windows will have live scenes depicting aspects of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. A live nativity with animals and a balloon glow with Christmas carols will be new to the event this year. Stores on the square will be open for holiday shopping.
This is the 14th year Dickens of a Christmas has taken place on the square. Last year, SIFE took over planning the event from the Chamber of Commerce as a way to get involved and give back to the community. The Indianola Chamber through a grant from their tourism committee is helping to sponsor the event. SIFE has also developed a Web site for the businesses on the square: www.indianolatownsquare.com.
