Softball team receives NCAA tournament berth

The Simpson College softball team has been awarded an at-large berth in the 2008 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.

The Storm will travel to Eau Claire, Wis., to play in a regional hosted by UW-Eau Claire. Simpson is the No. 4 seed and will play the fifth seed, Illinois Wesleyan, May 8 at 2 p.m. at Gelein Field.

Simpson is ranked 21st in the NFCA Top 25 poll while Illinois Wesleyan is ranked 23rd.

The regional will determine the No. 3 seed at next week’s national tournament. See a complete schedule and list of teams.

This is the 13th time that Simpson has been selected to play in NCAA Division III Tournament. Simpson has won both of its national championships (1997, 1999) in Eau Claire. This is the first time the Storm has played in the NCAA Tournament since 2006.
