Simpson College community members will perform “The Vagina Monologues” March 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Camp Lounge in the Brenton Student Center. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.
The production, which is a part of Simpson College’s celebration of Women’s History Month, will be used as a fundraiser to help prevent domestic violence in Warren County. Proceeds from the play, as well as the sale of various items throughout Women’s History Month, will go to Oasis, the Warren County Domestic Violence Service Provider.
Simpson senior Kayla Burkhiser brought the production to Simpson as part of her senior project. She was glad to be a part of Women’s History Month on campus.
“I have always been involved with women's issues on campus and within my various communities, and I feel that Women's History Month is a good context in which to bring to light many of the problems that women face in contemporary society,” Burkhiser said. “I also believe that in order to understand where we've been as women, we have to remember and celebrate those who have come before us. Honoring their accomplishments and sacrifices is just one of the ways that we, as women, remain cohesive as a group and move forward in our project of attaining equality for all disenfranchised members of society.”
