Coach earns 400th victory with no-hitter

March 10, 2008

Whitney Oviatt (Carnation, Wash., Cedarcrest H.S.) threw her first career no-hitter to give Simpson College Head Coach Henry Christowski his 400th victory at Simpson as the Storm won a pair of softball games March 10 at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

Christowski's 400th victory and Oviatt's no-no occured during Simpson's 14-0 win over Marietta College in game one of the day. Oviatt, a 6-0 sophomore, was an error and a walk away from a perfect game. Win No. 401 was a 6-1 decision over Benedictine College later in the day.

Christowski, who is in 13th season as Simpson softball coach, has compiled a 401-102-2 record and a .794 winning percentage at Simpson.

He was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame in December 2007. The induction is the NFCA's highest honor. Christowski is the only coach in NCAA softball history (all divisions) to win at least 200 games in his first five years as a head coach.

Under his leadership, Simpson has won four Division III regional titles, four Iowa Conference championships and two NCAA Division III National Championships.
