The annual Take Back the Night March and Rally will begin at
approximately
8 p.m. April 10 in front of Smith Chapel on Simpson’s campus and end in the
Indianola Town Square.
The march and rally will begin immediately after a screening of “Searching for Angela Shelton” — an award-winning documentary that explores women’s stories as survivors — in Jordan Lecture Hall. The film will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Take Back the Night is an event that is held in many communities nationwide as a way to raise awareness of violence against women. During the event, survivors of such violence have the opportunity to share their stories and experiences.
“The event is a chance for men and women to come together and recognize the prevalence of sexual assault, rape and abuse against women,” said Simpson student and event organizer Ali Jepsen.
The event is sponsored by Sophia, a campus group dedicated to women’s issues. The film screening, march and rally are the final events in Simpson College’s celebration of Women’s History Month.
