April 2, 2008
Simpson College is currently in the process of implementing the Simpson Alert for Emergencies system (SAFE) to enhance campus communication during emergency situations. SAFE will be used during emergency situations that pose an imminent danger to students, faculty and staff.
Faculty, staff and students should provide the college with contact information that that allows SAFE to easily reach them in case of an emergency. All members of the Simpson community were encouraged to sign up to receive SAFE messages by April 2, but registration can still take place through StormFront.
To learn more about SAFE, visit www.simpson.edu/alert.
PROVIDING EMERGENCY ALERT INFORMATION
Emergency alert information can be updated through StormFront. The Emergency Alert Information link is found under General Information within the My StormFront tab in the top right hand corner of the screen.
You can provide the following information:
- Up to two additional phone numbers to receive calls and voicemails. Providing a cell phone number is recommended.
- Cell phone number to receive text messages (charges may apply depending on cell phone provider/contract)
- Email address, additional to your Simpson email account
- An emergency number for a phone that receives TTY/TDD messages for the hearing impaired
The college plans to test the system campus-wide April 11. If you are contacted during the test at number you do not prefer to be reached at, you can choose to opt out certain information. A process will be provided at a later date.
ABOUT SAFE
SAFE allows campus officials to send time-sensitive information about emergencies to faculty, staff and students within minutes. The system allows officials to immediately send emergency messages through:
- Voice messages to home, work and cell phones
- Text messages to cell phones and other text-based devices
- Written messages to email accounts
- Messages to TTY/TDD receiving devices for the hearing impaired
