Simpson College has been chosen as a host site for the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.
This is the eighth time that Simpson has qualified for the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament. The Storm is making its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and is coming off a Sweet 16 finish last season. Simpson qualified for this year’s national tournament by winning both the IIAC regular season and post-season tournament titles. Simpson clinched the post-season title with a 94-80 victory over Coe College March 1.
The following is the schedule for this weekend at Simpson.
Friday, March 7, at Cowles Fieldhouse, Indianola, Iowa
- Carleton (19-9) vs UW-Eau Claire (22-6) at 5 p.m.
- Gustavus Adolphus (18-9) at Simpson (25-2) at 7 p.m.
Saturday, March 8
- Friday night winners at 7 p.m.
ABOUT GUSTAVUS: Gustavus Adolphus is making its eighth NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament appearance. The Gusties are playing in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
Gustavus earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament after finishing third in the MIAC this season. The Gusties advanced to the MIAC Tournament semifinals before falling to St. Thomas, who is also a NCAA Tournament selection. Gustavus is 4-7 in 11 NCAA Tournament games.
ABOUT CARLETON: Carleton is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance, its first since 2004. Carleton won the MIAC Tournament Championship, defeating fellow NCAA Tournament qualifier St. Thomas 53-50 in overtime in the title game. The Knights won the MIAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed. Carleton is 1-2 in NCAA Tournament games.
ABOUT UW-EAU CLAIRE: UW-Eau Claire is No. 20 in current d3hoops.com Top 25 and No. 24 in the USA Today/ESPN WBCA Top 25. The Blugolds are making their 14th NCAA Tournament appearance and have finished second on one occasion and third on another occasion.
The Blugolds are returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003. Eau Claire, who earned an at-large bid, earned a share of the WIAC regular season championship with Stevens Point. UW-Eau Claire is 29-13 in 42 NCAA Tournament games.
