The central event of Simpson College’s celebration of Women’s History Month is the Women in America Lecture featuring documentary filmmaker Angela Shelton at 7 p.m. March 19 in Pote Theatre in the Blank Performing Arts Center.
During the last writers strike, Shelton traveled the country in a rented RV interviewing other women named “Angela Shelton.” She discovered that approximately 70 percent of these women were victims of rape, childhood sexual assault or domestic violence. The discovery forces Shelton to face traumas in her own childhood and confront her abusive father. The resulting award-winning documentary, “Searching for Angela Shelton,” has inspired healing for survivors of many forms of abuse.
