July 29, 2009

Simpson College announced today the appointment of Rosemary Link as associate vice president of academic affairs. Link will primarily oversee Simpson’s Evening, Weekend and Graduate Programs.

Link joins Simpson from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minn., where she worked as dean of graduate studies, associate vice president for academic affairs and professor of social work. Prior to Augsburg, she taught at the University of Minnesota. She came to the United States from London, England.

“Rosemary will provide valuable leadership to Simpson’s growing Evening, Weekend and Graduate Programs,” said Simpson College President John Byrd. “Rosemary has a wealth of experience that will be beneficial as Simpson continues to expand its programs and strengthen its curriculum for working adults.”

Link is thrilled to be joining the administrative staff at Simpson.

“Lifelong learning is a passion of mine. I see students blossom at all ages and stages of their lives and believe that our traditional environments are enhanced by learners from a variety of stages in their careers,” she said. “I am quickly learning that students choose Simpson because it is known for its attention to each student and its excellent academic environment and because they feel welcomed. I cannot wait to be part of this exciting period in the life of Simpson College and to join in the Simpson Experience.”

In addition to her administrative roles at Augsburg College, Link has served as chair of the professional studies division and chair of the Department of Social Work. She received a grant from the U.S. State Department to be an educational ambassador promoting student exchange in India, Slovenia and Singapore and was a visiting fellow at the University of Bristol in England.

Link is the co-author of three books and a fourth is in press with Rowman and Littlefield. She has written and published numerous articles on children’s rights, social work, education and related topics.

Link holds a combined honors bachelor’s degree in modern history and politics with sociology from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom, a post-graduate Certificate Qualification in Social Work from London University, and a doctorate in social work from the University of Minnesota.

Link's husband, Andrew, is a self-employed management consultant and their three children have recently graduated: Alexander from Gustavus Adolphus College (2009), Amy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2008) and Sophie from Syracuse University (2001) and the National University of Ireland (2006). Rosemary loves to walk her dog, Bella, and ride her bike.
