Madrigal Singers perform at benefit

Feb. 22, 2009

The Simpson College Madrigal Singers will perform a benefit concert for the Chris Hade Memorial Scholarship Fund at Indianola High School Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.

The group will perform under the direction of Dr. Robert Larsen, professor of music at Simpson College. Larsen founded the Madrigal Singers when he arrived at Simpson more than 50 years ago.

The Madrigal Singers specialize in Renaissance and contemporary music for chamber ensembles. Their concert will include Italian and English madrigals, French chansons, American spiritual arrangements and German part songs as well as works by Claude Debussy and Relly Raffman.

Though the group tours throughout the Midwest, they perform more concerts in Europe than America. This year, their spring concert will take them to Holland, Belgium and France.

General admission tickets for the Feb. 22 concert are $10 for adults and $5 for students, ages 18 and younger. Simpson College and Indianola High School students will be admitted free of charge with a student ID.
