Simpson music students perform ‘The Consul’

Simpson College music students will perform the opera “The Consul” Feb. 15 through Feb. 17 in Pote Theatre in the Blank Performing Arts Center at Simpson College. The opera will be performed under the direction of Robert Larsen, professor of music and founder of the Des Moines Metro Opera.

“The Consul,” a 1950s Pulitzer Prize winning opera by Gian Carlo Menotti, follows the struggles of a family as they try to flee from a totalitarian state. The musical drama is one of the 20^th century’s most compelling and astonishing operas.

Performances Friday and Saturday will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday’s performance is at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students age 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased by calling (515) 961-1637. Reservations began Jan. 25.
