Four faculty members will be on sabbatical during the spring 2008 semester. Sabbatical leave allows a chance for in-depth research and provides professional growth and development for faculty.
Spring sabbaticals are:
- John Benoit, associate professor of music, will take time to work on his project, “Research into the Jazz and Popular Music of the 1910s and 1920s.”
- David Richmond, associate professor of art, will look at “Variations of the DaVinci Codes.”
- Patricia Binek Singer, professor of biology, will be researching the regulation of cell birth and cell death.
- Patricia Woodward Young, professor of education, examined the impact of a caring elementary school climate on adolescent self-esteem.
An additional four faculty members will return to campus from their sabbaticals during the fall 2007 semester:
- Jacqueline Brittingham, associate professor of biology, worked on a project entitled, “Developing a Human Physiologist.”
- Donald Evans, associate professor of psychology, studied “Physiological and Cognitive Neuroscience Research and Instrumentation.”
- Professor of management Ruth Weatherly analyzed the methods and results of the negotiation of health benefits among Iowa public employer and employee groups.
- Professor of chemistry Ronald Warnet’s project will be “Atomic Force Microscopy in the Science Program at Simpson.”
