Breakfast Clubs receives award

Members of the Simpson College Breakfast Club—Ann Shepard, chapel assistant, and Simpson students Kellyn Pappas and Daniell Caswell—pose with Iowa first lady Mari Culver during the awards ceremony.

The Simpson College Breakfast Club received the Governor’s Volunteer Award during a special ceremony last month in Des Moines.

The student organization was selected for the Group Award by the Iowa Board of Regents. The Governor’s Volunteer Award program was established in 1982 to honor and recognize volunteers for the commitment, service and time that they contribute to Iowa’s government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

The Breakfast Club is a student organization run through the Religious Life Community at Simpson. Students who participate in the Breakfast Club travel to Des Moines in the morning to service breakfast and supervise inner-city children in a before school program run by Children and Family Urban Ministries.
