Students go abroad in May

April 27, 2009

Simpson College’s May Term will begin April 27.

May Term is a three-week period where students take one course to allow for in-depth research and study.

In addition to a variety of on-campus offerings, this year, many international travel courses were offered as options for the term, including:

  • Contemporary Argentina: Culture, Trade & the Economy
  • Natural History of Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands
  • Thailand: the Culture and People of a Developing Nation
  • Rwanda: Service Learning through Arts Education
  • Expanding the European Union: Germany and Poland
  • Irish Arts: Mirror or Mover
  • Media in Ireland
  • Discover Britain and Ireland 2009: Historic Locations in British and Irish History
  • Bringing the Flemish and French Renaissance to Life with The Madrigal Singers
  • America and France in the 21st Century

Because of Simpson’s May Term trips and semester abroad programs, approximately 43 percent of Simpson students study internationally during their time at the college. Simpson is one of only two Iowa colleges to be listed in U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of institutions with the most students studying abroad.
