Maria DiPalma

Maria DiPalmaDr. DiPalma recently completed a D.M.A. in Vocal Performance at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. She studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and received her Master of Music in Voice and Opera Performance from the Philadelphia Musical Academy where she studied voice with Richard Torigi, coached with Licia Albanese, and worked with Tito Capobianco in opera production. During the summer of 1971, she studied and performed at l'Academia Chigiana in Siena, Italy, under the direction of the North Carolina School of the Arts. She has appeared as a recitalist at Swarthmore College , John Hopkins University, in the Philadelphia area and has toured Iowa on an Iowa Arts Council Touring Grant. During her recent sabbatical leave she performed a recital at the Chiostro di Santa Croce in the Sala Grande sponsored by the choir of the church. She has sung with the Philadelphia Lyric Opera, and the Philadelphia Musical Theatre. As a member of the voice faculty she has performed Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Poppea in The Coronation of Poppea, and The New Prioress in The Dialogues of the Carmelites. Appearances with the Des Moines Metro Opera Festival include roles in Gianni Schicchi, Manon, Susanna, The Magic Flute, Il Trovatore, and Carmen. She recently appeared in their production of Macbeth (Verdi). Dr. DiPalma has also adjudicated district Metropolitan Opera Auditions in Milwaukee, Kansas City and Minneapolis.
