Ronald N. Albrecht

Dr. Ronald Albrecht received his Bachelor of Music degree from Augsburg College, and his Master of Fine Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Minnesota.

AlbrechtDr. Albrecht is currently Professor of Music at Simpson College where he teaches piano, music theory, Discovering Music, and The History of Rock and Roll.

He has received the Excellence in Teaching award from Simpson College, national certification from the Music Teachers National Association, and has been awarded the Master Teacher Certificate, and the Professional Certificate by the M.T.N.A. In 2005, he received the Faculty Service Award from the Simpson College Alumni Association.

He performs on and off campus as a pianist and is a frequent adjudicator for the Iowa Music Teachers Association. Most recently he has performed at the North American Saxophone Alliance Annual Conference held in Columbia, South Carolina (2008), and in recitals in Greensboro, North Carolina, at Drake University, Northwestern College, Graceland College, Central College, and at Simpson College.

As a composer, he has compositions published by Roncorp Publishing Inc. (New Jersey), by Alberta Keys Music Publishing Co. Ltd, in Calgary, Canada, by Shawnee Press (Texas), by Northeastern Publications, and by Tap Music Incorporated. He has received commissions from the Iowa Music Teachers Association and the National Music Teachers Association, the Iowa Arts Council, and the Iowa Composers Forum. He was the 2006 winner of the Marilynn Etzel composition commission award. His most recent premiere was "Urban Impressions" for alto saxophone and piano at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, in 2008.

He has recorded three CDs: Through the Years, which features live performances over a 20 year period; Silver, with flautist Sandra Wacha; and Aeterna, with saxophonist Dr. Dave Camwell.

He recently completed a sabbatical leave working as a full-time volunteer researcher in the areas of jazz, the blues, and rock and roll, for the River Music Experience in Davenport, Iowa.
