Dr. James Bunte

A native of Colorado, Bunte has earned degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder (BM, BME), and CCM (MM, saxophone performance, DMA is ABD). As a concert saxophonist, James Bunte is an active recitalist, giving recitals and master classes throughout the United States and most recently, France. Having presented his Carnegie Hall debut in 2006, he has performed at NASA (North American Saxophone Alliance) regional and national conferences. Bunte is the regular saxophonist with the Cincinnati Symphony, and has recorded six compact discs with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras. Bunte has performed with the Lyrique en Mer Orchestra (France), Dayton Philharmonic, the Eugene Symphony, the Charleston symphony, the Richmond Symphony (IN), the Kentucky Symphony, the Springfield Symphony (OH) and the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra.

Bunte is also an experienced jazz musician, having toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines; and having performed with Ray Charles, Manhattan Transfer, New York Voices, Dick Hyman, Byron Stripling, John Pizzarelli, Stefan Carlsson, Cook, Dixon and Young, and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Bunte has been on the faculty at the University of Oregon, Miami University (OH), and Northern Kentucky University, but he also has public school experience at a Kentucky high school. James Bunte is a Vandoren Artist.

Dr. Andrew Heglund

Dr. Andrew Heglund is Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno where he teaches percussion, directs the UNR Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Big Band 1. Heglund holds a Doctor of Arts Degree in Music from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master's of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas.  Since moving to the Reno-Tahoe area in 1996, Heglund has performed with jazz artists Lee Konitz, Cedar Walton, Bobby Hutcherson, Bud Shank, Ravi Coltrane, Robin Eubanks, and Fred Hersch.  He also performs with the UNR faculty quintet The Collective, The Reno Jazz Orchestra, and the Ed Corey Trio.  Heglund has played on three CD's with the Collective (North, Boats, Balance) and one CD with the Ed Corey Trio (Modal Citizen). He also performs with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra and the Discover Music Percussion Ensemble.  Recently, Heglund was percussion soloist with the University Wind Ensemble for their performance of Joseph Schwantner's Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra.  Dr. Heglund is an active clinician/adjudicator in the Northern Nevada and Northern California areas and organizes the annual Northern Nevada Day of Percussion.

Dr. Robert Knop

Dr. Robert Knop is currently a third year assistant professor of music at Cal State. His responsibilities include applied saxophone, music education, jazz studies, and music appreciation. A background of teaching instrumental music and general music in the Chicago Public School system has given him unique skills to share with students.After earning a Bachelor of Music at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Dr. Knop went on to a Master of Music at Northern Illinois University and was awarded a Doctor of Arts from The University of Northern Colorado.A professional musician for over twenty years, he was active in the jazz, blues, and commercial music scene in Chicago and recalls sharing the stage with Clark Terry, Tito Puente, Louie Bellson, Karrin Allyson, and others. As a classical and jazz saxophonist, Dr. Knop has studied with Steven Duke and Bunky Green, and with every student he has ever been privileged to teach.

His first love is teaching and his passion for inspiring future musicians to reach their potential is what brought him to Cal State. He currently resides in Redlands with his wife Dr. Nancy Glen (also a member of the CSUSB music faculty) and their two Labrador retrievers Maddie and Meg.

FAQ

Where do we unload the equipment?
At the East entrance of the music building which is located on Buxton Street.

Is there a campus map available?

Where will the buses/equipment vehicles park?
Once you arrive and unload the equipment, the drivers will be directed to suitable parking.

Do I need to fill out any judge's forms?
We have the judge's forms here. All we need from you is three copies of a list of your tunes and soloists.

Where and when will we warm up?
The warm up room is Harris Hall (band room) and you will be given a half hour prior to your performance time for warm up.
