End of the Isms 2009

Living the Dream 2009 - End of the Isms.

Simpson students, professors and members of the Indianola community marched to end discrimination in March 27.

International Food Festival 2009

The annual festival was held on March 26 in Pfeiffer Dining Hall. The students, faculty members and staff enjoyed typical meals from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Ireland, Nepal, Philippines and Russia.

George Washington Carver Lecture 2009


Simon Estes, internationally renowned opera star awarded the 2009 George Washington Carver Medal. The medal held on February 26, 2009 in Smith Chapel at Simpson College. Simpson College has established the Carver Medal to annually recognize an outstanding individual whose life exemplifies the commitment and vision of service of George Washington Carver. Past Carver lecturers include: John Hope Franklin, Eleanor Holmes Norton, Jesse L. Jackson, Dr. Louis Sullivan, Dr. John B. Slaughter, and Shirley Chisholm.

 Soul Food 2009

Soul Food 2009 was organized as a part of the African American History Month celebration. Special delicacies like black eyed peas, cornbread, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, yams, and chili were enjoyed by all. Great turnout!

SECOND ANNUAL LATINO FOOD SAMPLING 

The annual Latino Food Sampling was held on September 23, 2008 in BSC Gallery. In celebrating the Latino Heritage Month, Simpson enjoyed some delicious Latin flavors.

MLK Day Observance 2008

Marin Luther King day observance was marked by a speech from Ako Abdul Samad. It was a part of the forum event for our students. He talked about what it meant to live in a diverse community.

Chinese New Year 2008

The students from MSA helped to set up displays and decorations for the Chinese New Year. It was a great cultural experience for our students to observe the marshall arts, acrobatics and various other culture from China as a part of celebrating their new year.

George Washington Carver Lecture
This annual speech is given during Black History Month and usually features a prominent African American speaker with introductions by the President of the College and of the Mulicultural Student Alliance.

This trip, sponsored in part by RLC and LIVE, offered 16 students a chance to see and learn from the devastation of hurricane Katrina as they helped with the rebuilding process.
