New Business
1. Elections were held. Lynette Snyder was elected President, Michelle Lingscheit was elected Vice President, and Emily Wagoner (me) was elected Secretary.
2. Lynette will renew math club as a registered club on campus.
3. We discussed Simpson's new recruiting technique of using face book and if there was interest in working making a math face book group for this purpose. It was decided that there was interest and Cassie Lacina and Chelsy Croson will be in charge of this project.
4. Tee shirts were discussed being sold. If you have an idea for a tee shirt designs bring it to the next meeting.
5. Pi Mu Epsilon (National Mathematics Honor Society) was discussed. Last year work was done to gather information to become a chapter. The discussion was should we move forward and become a chapter or not. The downside is it could possibly bring division to the members of math club because not everyone will meet the requirements to become a member and its expense to get started. The benefits are if you become a member it looks good on applications to Graduate Schools and Jobs. This decision was tabled until next meeting.
6. The idea was brought up of starting a fund. This will be used for students to apply and get money to go to conferences and present their research. This was agreed to be a good idea as a result math club will have a fund raiser to put money in this fund. The current fund raiser ideas are bake sale, car wash and tee shirts. If you have any fund raiser ideas bring them to the next meeting.
7. A Speaker Series was discussed where the five math professors would discuss their research in a thirty minute talk. Then the following month a new professor will present. One possible time was Tuesdays at 1:00p.m.
8. The next meeting will be Sunday Oct. 12th at 7:00p.m.
Other Info.
