The Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) are offered to undergraduates each February by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP).  The contests are a great opportunity for students to solve problems from real-world settings, practice working in a team with deadlines and write persuasively about mathematics, all skills that will serve them well in the work place.

Each three person team works for 96 hours on an open ended, real-world problem and submits a paper describing their solution to the problem.  The problems for each year can be found at the COMAP site.  The rankings of the teams are Outstanding (top 2-3%), Meritorious: (next 10-15%),  Honorable Mention (next 30-35%) and Successful Participant.

Clicking on the date if the contests will get you to the summaries of the papers and pictures of the teams where available.
