Formatting

Fonts – OmniUpdate is set up to put text in the college's standard font, size and color. Use of any other styles is discouraged. If for some reason the text doesn't remain in the standard style, highlight it and use the remove text formatting tool in the OmniUpdate toolbar.

Links – All links should be words, not Web addresses. Use brief but meaningful link text that explains what the link offers. Please do not use “Click Here” as your link text. Links can be incoporated into a sentence.

Lists – If a list is needed, please use the bullets button in the OmniUpdate toolbar. Do not use hyphens in place of bullets.

Naming new pages and files – The main page of a section (directory) is named index.html Other page and file names should be in lowercase letters, without spaces. The only punctuation in any page name should be the period before html.

Menu links – Capitalize the first and last words in the link, as well as any proper nouns or other main words. Do not capitalize a, an or the unless it’s the first word of the title.

Page titles – Capitalize the first and last words of the title, as well as any proper nouns or other main words. Do not capitalize a, an or the unless it’s the first word of the title.

Paste clean – Paste clean is an option of the paste button (the clipboard). Use it when you transfer text from Microsoft Word documents or other sources to a Web page. When text is copy/pasted to a Web page, it carries extra HTML code. This extra code won’t affect what you see on the screen, but when you publish the page it will look awkward. To keep this from happening, always use the paste-clean function. You will lose any formatting you’ve done in Word, such as bolded words or italics, but can easily re-format the text using the tools in OmniUpdate.

Remove text formatting – When you forget to use the paste-clean function or need to remove formatting from a large block of text, you can select the text and use the remove text formatting button (the red eraser).
