Matt Turk is in his 11th year at Simpson. Turk’s duties at Simpson have included; serving as the primary media contact for all 18 varsity sports, overseeing a staff of 10-15 student assistant sports information directors, maintenance of the Simpson College athletics’ Web site, serving as a co-host on the Simpson College radio coaches show and serving as director of advertising sales for Simpson College sports publications.
Since becoming the Storm Sports Information Director, Turk has served as media relations host for eight NCAA Tournaments in five different sports (basketball, football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and softball) and has worked on two PR campaigns which saw Simpson athletes attain national player of the year honors, and in the case of Storm wrestler Nick Ackerman, an appearance on NBC’s Today show (May 18, 2001). Ackerman’s accomplishment has been named one of the 25 Defining Moments in NCAA history (as part of the NCAA’s 100th anniversary celebration). Another Simpson wrestler, Curtis Barber, was to have appeared on CBS Sports’ 2007 NCAA Winter Sports Highlights’ show, but was removed at the last minute due to time constraints. Three Simpson athletes have appeared in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd. Turk’s publications have been honored 25 times including 14 publication certificates from CoSIDA, eight awards from the Amateur Wrestling News, and three CoSIDA Stabley Writing awards.
Prior to joining the Simpson staff, Turk served as a graduate assistant sports information director at North Dakota State University. During his stint at North Dakota State , Turk served on staffs that hosted five NCAA Division II Tournaments including the 1996 “Elite 8”, the Division II National Championship for women’s basketball.
A native of Flushing, NY, Turk is a 1994 graduate of St. John’s University (N.Y.). He is single and resides in Indianola, Iowa.
