Marketing and Public Relations

Logos

Various Simpson College logos, are available and will be sent to you when you request it from the marketing and public relations office. If you're not sure about an appropriate use of the logo, please contact Nathan Huss , director of marketing communications in the marketing and public relations office at x1606.

The Simpson College logo will be used campus-wide on all external communication projects. The words Simpson College represent a visual image of the college and as such will always appear in an accepted and approved form.

Use of the Simpson College logo by non-college organizations, businesses, individuals or groups may be authorized by the director or marketing communications. It will be the responsibility of the director of marketing communications to assure the correct use of the Simpson College logo.

THE SIMPSON LOGO
The logo will appear only in the New Century Schoolbook Bold typeface. The logo, whether in a horizontal or vertical format, may be used by itself or with the maple leaves and line graphic. These logos are constructed as one unit and are available in EPS, TIF or JPEG formats.

The use of color with the logo
The predominant colors to be used with the Simpson logo are black, white and red and gold. (PMS 194 is Simpson’s “official red.”) However, if in the discretion of the art director, the use of another color (for example with a one-color printed piece) would enhance the design of the piece— and help conserve the budget —the use of that color is acceptable.

THE COLLEGE SEAL
The seal of the college is not the logo. It is to be reserved for the use of only the most official and formal occasions such as certificates, formal invitations and diplomas. The seal is available in electronic form from the public relations department.

THE COLLEGE CREST
The college crest, or coat of arms, is not to be used in place of the logo and its use is very restricted to only the most official documents, and then only at the discretion of the president.

ATHLETICS
The use of the Simpson College logo by the athletic department is governed by these guidelines, except with respect to uniforms and athletic equipment. It shall be the responsibility of the director of athletics to maintain a unified visual representation of Simpson College intercollegiate athletics, consistent with the policies and use explained in this guidebook.

THE STORM LOGO
The athletic department is sanctioned to use the STORM logo as an identity symbol for Simpson intercollegiate athletics. This Storm logo may be represented in black, white, red and/or gold. Two-color versions can include black and red and red and gold. Black and gold should be avoided for the most part, as not to confuse Simpson colors with that of the University of Iowa sports teams. In some occasions it is necessary to include the Simpson College logo with the STORM logo.

The block SC used by the athletic department on uniforms and various publications should be considered a secondary logo, as opposed to the primary Simpson College and “Storm” logos. As a result it should be used in a limited and appropriate manner on items, such as caps, uniforms, etc.
