Workshop to give high school, elementary students glimpse into theater
The Simpson College theater department will offer two summer camps for area youth on July 30-Aug. 4 and Aug. 7-11 to give high school and elementary students the opportunity to dive into the creative process of theater.
The first program is designed for high school students and will look at both the technical and performance aspects of the theater world. This week-long residential camp will then allow students to showcase their works at the end of the week in an ‘open classroom’ setting. Students entering fourth through sixth grades can participate in the second program offered the beginning of August. This day camp will focus on the process of creating a play, which will be presented to friends and family in the Barnum Studio Theatre at Simpson College.
These structured events under the direction of Ann Woldt and taught by Theatre Simpson faculty and theater professionals will allow young people to expand their creative theater skills. The program will focus on Theatre Simpson’s mission: personal discovery, self-discipline, creative expression and artistic excellence.
