The Iowa Conservation and Preservation Consortium (ICPC) will host a daylong preservation workshop at four locations throughout Iowa in June. The hands-on session will first be held at Dunn Library at Simpson College in Indianola from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 1.
The preservation session is designed for archivists, county clerks, curators, genealogists, librarians, museum workers and anyone who conserves and preserves heritage material. The general public is also welcome. Participants will have the opportunity to perform a full book repair, mount and mat a photograph, learn basics of digitizing photographs, repair a wooden object and discover the basics of cataloging and accessioning of museum and archival collections with University of Iowa libraries instructors Nancy E. Kraft, preservation librarian, and book repair supervisor Susan Hansen.
ICPC is a membership organization to initiate, encourage and enhance preservation and conservation by providing basic education and training. Funding for the 2006 preservation training program was partially supported through the Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) act through a Historical Resource Development Program (REAP/HRDP) grant from the State Historical Society of Iowa.
The hands-on session is $40 for ICPC members or $50 for non-members. The workshop will be repeated at Buena Vista University library on June 2, Iowa Wesleyan College library on June 8, and Wartburg College library on June 9.
