Alumni Weekend 2006 to be held June 23-24

Simpson College will host Alumni Weekend 2006 on June 23-24 with many activities open to the public.

The weekend begins with an alumni recognition luncheon at 11 a.m. on June 23 in Great Hall. The annual alumni association awards ceremony will be held during the luncheon to recognize 10 alumni with outstanding service to Simpson College, outstanding career achievement and humanitarian efforts. Cost for the luncheon is $10.

At 6:30 p.m. on June 23 the Presidents’ Picnic will be held on the Brenton Student Center patio. Current Simpson president John Byrd and his wife Nancy will be joined by former president Steve Jennings and his wife Sally during the picnic. Cost of the picnic is $8.50.

The All-Alumni Breakfast, also open to the public, will be at 8 a.m. June 24 in the Matthew Simpson room where there will be the unveiling of The Names That Live at Simpson, which include distinguished alumni and faculty. Cost of the breakfast is $6.50.

Other weekend activities include the Simpson Cup Golf Tournament at 1:30 p.m. on June 23; the unveiling of the Cathy Barker Office Suites in the newly renovated south wing of Hillman Hall at 3 p.m. on June 23; and sorority luncheons at Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta and Pi Beta Phi at noon on June 24. Cost of the sorority luncheons varies and reservations may be made with the respective chapters.

Throughout the weekend, alumni college classes will be held, including New Developments in the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease, The Assassin’s Gate, computer and Internet basics and Shakespeare on Film, among other classes. The classes are also open to the public for a $10 registration fee.

All Simpson College alumni and the public are welcome to Alumni Weekend 2006 events, and the weekend will celebrate the reunions of the classes of 1941, 1946, 1951, 1956, 1961, 1966 and 1970-72.
