CBS's McGinnis to deliver McBride Lecture

Learn how CBS News covers the world at Simpson College's leading lecture program when Marcy McGinnis, senior vice president of news coverage, delivers the 18th annual McBride Lecture 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 18 in Smith Chapel.

McGinnis has overseen all of CBS News' international and domestic news bureaus since her promotion in June 2001 from vice president in charge of the day-to-day newsgathering in Europe, Africa and the Middle East while based in London

While in London, McGinnis won three Emmy Awards for CBS News' coverage of the death of Princess Diana.

McGinnis has had a distinguished career with CBS News, having served as a deputy bureau chief, director and executive producer for CBS NEWSPATH, the world's largest newsgathering system. During her time with CBS NEWSPATH, she has covered world crises and major political campaigns and has worked with thousands of affiliates and international clients providing news services.

She is a native of Allenhurst, New Jersey and an honors graduate of Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. Currently she serves on the boards of the International Women's Media Foundation and the Louisiana State University's Manship School of Mass Communications. She resides in New York.

Named for Simpson's 19th president, Robert McBride and his wife, Luella, the McBride Lectureship is Simpson's premier annual lecture committed to exposing Simpson's students to leading thinkers in a variety of fields. Past speakers have included former British prime minister Lord Harold Wilson, journalist Carl Bernstein and activist and writer Sister Helen Prejean.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
