Simpson (27-10) defeated Maryville (Tenn.) 3-0 (30-15, 30-27, 30-20) in the
first round of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Volleyball Tournament
Nov. 9 in St. Louis, Mo. The Storm held the Lady Scots -.040 hitting percentage
in game one and a .100 hitting percentage for the match. Simpson held a
12-2 advantage in the blocking department.
Jessica Martin (Sr., Toledo, Iowa, South Tama H.S.) paced the Storm. Martin had
15 kills and charted a .483 hitting percentage (15-1-29). Jayna Fischbach
(Sr., Carroll, Iowa, Carroll H.S.) recorded 10 kills and three blocks.
Janay Michel (Sr., Farragut, Iowa, Southwestern C.C., Farragut H.S.)
added seven kills and three blocks. Storm setter Tara Christensen (Fr.,
Hinton, Iowa, Hinton H.S.) tallied 37 of the 42 Simpson assists.
Rachael Skerczak led Maryville, the No. 7 seed, with nine kills and seven digs,
while Lindsy Little and Jennifer Seivers contributed eight kills apiece. After
making its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Maryville wrapped up the
season with a 25-12 record.
Simpson, the No. 2 seed in the regional, will face either No. 3 Rhodes College
(Tenn.) or No. 6 Webster Univ. (Mo.) in the tournament semifinals Friday
afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in St. Louis.
