Simpson's SIFE selected to attend regional competition

The Simpson College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team has been selected to participate in the SIFE Regional Competition in Minneapolis on March 31. This is the fifth year Simpson students will participate in the regional competition, where they have been named regional champions the past two years.

Unlike previous years where competition participants applied to attend the regionals, this year schools were selected to attend. Of the more than 800 SIFE teams in the U.S., only 60 percent are invited, making it an honor for Simpson to be selected.

Tom Schmidt, assistant professor of management and SIFE advisor, says there are a number of corporate recruiters at the regional competition, which gives Simpson students good exposure to internship and job possibilities.

“It creates awareness of the college,” said Schmidt. “It also gets our students out and networking.”

This year Simpson has seven projects to present at competition, including an Internet map of the Indianola square and businesses, and a marketing brochure for Victory Christian Academy in Indianola. The students also developed a financial literacy program, a job service program for area teenagers and a program to help Girls Scouts sell cookies. If the Simpson SIFE team places, they may be selected to attend the national competition.
