Simpson will host science and engineering fair for high school students
Simpson College will host nearly 200 sixth- through 12th-graders from throughout Iowa during the 20th annual South Central Iowa Science and Engineering Fair on Saturday, March 18.
The science fair serves as an outreach program for the talented faculty of Simpson to interact with young scientists throughout Iowa. It gives the students, who come from Ames, Algona, Clarinda, Indianola, Winterset, Panora and other districts throughout the state, the opportunity to work with science professionals on the process of designing, executing and presenting a science project.
Now in its 20th year, SCISEF at one time had less than 50 participants but has grown to nearly 200 this year. Participation in the fair is a standout achievement that can have substantial impact on college applications and résumés for the students participating.
The fair is open for public viewing of the projects from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Carver Science Center with an awards ceremony at 5 p.m. in Smith Chapel. For more information, phone (515) 961-1600.
