Simpson’s performance to include New York actress
Featuring an enchanting blend of some of the best-loved fairy tales of all time, Theatre Simpson will present Steven Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” at 7:30 p.m. on March 3 and 4 with a 1 p.m. performance on March 4 and 5 at the Blank Performing Arts Center.
“Into the Woods” weaves the ironic humor found in “Shrek” and “The Princess Bride” with more sober deceptions, swindles and curses that are part of the enchanted world where even fantastical choices have consequences. In their quest to find “happily ever after,” the main characters move through the stories of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Prince Charming and Little Red Riding Hood, but the performance goes a step further to discover what happens after happily ever after.
Directed by theater department chair Tom Woldt, the production brings New York actress Amanda White to campus as the witch. White spent two seasons with the Old Creamery Theater in Amana before heading to Chicago and New York where she is a professional actress. She is on campus as an artist-in-residence, visiting classes and sharing the story of her vocational journey.
Tickets to “Into the Woods” are $8 for adults, $7 for non-Simpson students and $6 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets are available at the theater box office between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. weekdays in Blank Performing Arts Center or by e-mailing tsboxoffice@simpson.edu.
