Performance artist Stevens returns to campus March 6

Performance to mark women’s history month

Performance artist and musician Claudia Stevens will return to Simpson College at 7 p.m. on March 6 for a moving performance of “A Table Before Me” in Great Hall.

“A Table Before Me” is a musical drama in one act that was created by Stevens based on the experiences of her mother’s family during the Nazi takeover of Austria in 1938. The one-woman performance features Stevens playing a variety of characters with a script that features actual letters and documents from the Gestapo to the family. Sponsored by the Lilly Initiative for Vocational Exploration, “A Table Before Me” is ultimately a tribute to Stevens’ mother, and promotes discussion of violation of personal freedoms and interfaith dialogue among Christians and Jews.

Stevens first performed at Simpson College in November 2004 with her performance of “An Evening with Madame F.” Her performance of “A Table Before Me” will be part of the college’s women’s history month.

The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Lilly Initiative at (515) 961-1210.
